Cashland Adds Western Union Services

Date: Friday, April 9, 2004

Cashland, the Dayton-based chain of payday advance stores, will begin offering Western Union services at each of its 140 facilities during the remainder of 2004.

The addition is a result of an agreement between Western Union and Cashland's corporate parent, Cash America International Inc., announced Thursday.

The deal also applies to Cash America's other properties throughout the United States, including 400 Cash America pawnshops, 20 Cash America payday advance stores and 135 Mr. Payroll check-cashing kiosks.

Western Union provides both money order and money transfer services.

Under the five-year agreement, Western Union will pay undisclosed financial incentives to Dallas-based Cash America, as well as undisclosed marketing and merchandising allowances to Cash America.

Cash America purchased Cashland last summer for $53 million. Founded here in 1987, Cashland remains headquartered in Dayton and employs 450 people companywide.
